Using Sustainability Branding to Encourage Green Practices in Singapore’s Maritime Industry

Story

MPA became the world's first maritime administration to launch a comprehensive pro-environement initiative, known as the Maritime Singapore Green Inititative (MSGI).

Synonymous with Singapore’s identity as a garden city, Singapore’s port, which is one of the world’s busiest global transhipment hub, is also “green” in terms of environmental responsibility. 

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) works closely with various partners to limit the impact of port and shipping activities, such as emissions and pollutions from ships, with the goal towards a safe, secure and efficient shipping on clean oceans. 

To promote clean and green shipping in Singapore, MPA became the world’s first maritime administration to launch a comprehensive pro-environement initiative, known as the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative (MSGI). The initiative comprises of programmes where up to S$100 million has been set aside to incentivise shipping partners to adopt greener practices.

To create a cohesive brand language around the initiative and create a series of marketing collaterals to promote clean and green shipping practices amongst companies.

The priority was to first create a consistent and cohesive design language to brand the initiative.

The priority was to first create a consistent and cohesive design language to brand the initiative. Logos under the same design language are conceptualised for each programme under the initiative, namely, Green Ship Programme, Green Port Programme, Green Energy and Technology Programme and Green Awareness Programme. 

The hardcopy leaflet serves to educate the various stakeholders, in particular the maritime industry, on the existing incentive schemes offered by MPA to encourage and reward ship owners and operators for establishing environmentally-friendly shipping practices.

The agency also created a 64-page electronic publication that profiles and highlights participating companies and their efforts in protecting the environment with clean and green shipping practices. Information detailing the qualifying criteria and relevant incentives under the initiative are provided for readers.

We are proud to be part of the marketing of this initiative that underscores Singapore’s commitment as a responsible port state to clean and green shipping.
